Common/Mew/Kamchatka
Gull Larus canus
Most 'Common Gulls' wintering in Japan are supposed
to be kamtschatschensis. So most
individuals in this website are provisionally labeled
Kamchatka Gull L. c. kamtschatschensis. But, some
unidentifiable heinei may possibly be present
among them. The North American form Mew Gull L.
(c.) brachyrhynchus is
scarce visitor in Japan. Identifications are easier
than in heinei, though some problematic individuals
are also found.
